New Year in the Georgia Mountains

One of my favorite memories as a child was the day each year that mum and dad would come home from shopping on a Saturday with a handful of travel brochures. We would all look through them and pick a family vacation together. Those trips were some of the nicest childhood memories that I have! We decided that we should also commit to taking a main family trip together each year and rotate who gets to choose where we go! For the first one, Mike picked and made a great choice...

We had a perfect 'back to basics' trip to the Georgia mountains over the new year. We ran into a couple of mishaps along the way - we forgot Maddy's bag and had to buy all new clothes for her and left the (not exactly inexpensive) champagne in a hotel on the drive up - but everything came together once we got there!

The waterfalls at the start of the Appalachian trail are just beautiful!

Every morning we sat out on our deck and soaked up the breathtaking view of the mountains...

Our log cabin was so pretty and bear-themed throughout!

Maddy took responsibility for collecting the logs for the open fire each night!

We hiked every day and really enjoyed that Georgia mountain air...

Snuggling by the fire in the evenings was my favorite thing to do...:)
