Mike managed to run into two snakes in one day! It started when he opened the garage door and didn't notice this one until it was looking straight into his face - yikes! I used this handy-dandy guide to identify them (Identifying Florida snakes). The first one is a Florida water snake we think so thankfully harmless...
The one that he found on the driveway later, however, was a Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake. Apparently it's notorious for protecting itself and delivers a nasty, venomous bite. It doesn't usually kill but more often their bite results in the loss of a digit. Not this one - Mike killed it since it had taken up home literally on our doorstep and we have a child in the house who needs all 10 of her fingers...
