Hurricane Irma

We got to see Maddy again the weekend after Labor Day due to Hurricane Irma. We've gone through several big storms before but never anything of this size. Irma was the size of France!

Getting water and gas was tricky the week before...

But we figured it out in the end and felt as ready as you can be just in time. Juneau did a stellar job during the tornado warnings and remained calm in the closet:)

The hardest part for her was picking out 'essential' toys beforehand. She loooooves her toys!

The eye came during the night and we slept downstairs away from any windows that were taking the brunt of the winds. Juneau preferred that to the closet:)

We lost power inevitably and it was a long, scary and noisy night. But in the morning, we were happy that we didn't have any structural damage unlike for many of our neighbors (one of which had his roof shingles in our yard). Our back garden was pretty trashed though...

But we were so lucky. We drove around the neighborhood as soon as the curfew lifted and there was flooding and trees down everywhere. We did find two baby snakes who had curled up on the top of the fence...

An this little guy was washed up on our doorstep! He was still alive thankfully so we took him down to the pond. In the car...:)

Things are getting back to normal now for us but there is still a lot of work to do in our area. Hopefully that will be the last big storm that we will experience.
